My Thoughts

I recently had the opportunity to write my very first magazine editorial! Although I agonised over what to write and whether it was good enough, I was pretty proud when I finally saw it printed and published.

I recently had the opportunity to make a new friend, Kiki. She has a fashion blog, but instead of writing about her own personal outfits, she interviews other bloggers, so I was honoured when asked to meet with me. Not only is she absolutely adorable, but she’s kind and hilarious too!

If you’re interested in reading my interview, you can check it out here. Note: there’s a special announcement in the interview that you probably don’t know about yet!

If you read APOE often, you may know that I recently had the opportunity to speak at Business In Heels, a ladies business networking event here in Bangkok. It was my first time public speaking and it was terrifying, but all of the women were so supportive and I couldn’t have asked for a better environment to speak in.

Getting Juicy

Sweater: Gentle Fawn – Backpack: Culture Riot

This past week I did my very first juice cleanse with Lifestyle Juicery. It was quite the experience! I am obsessed with eating and even more obsessed with coffee and wine, so this endeavor was quite a challenge. However, I ended up feeling pretty great after it was over and am still feeling the effects a few days later. I am also quite proud because I managed to do it without cheating at all!

Bangkok Tree House

During hot season my Bangkok adventures tend to involve air-conditioned Uber rides out of my soi to Central Embassy, where I will spend the day in Rocket Coffee Bar working on something, followed by the evening drinking wine on the patio of Water Library. All in the comforts of aircon. Yes, the Water Library patio has some pretty fancy cooling mechanisms on the patio. Basically, I’m super lazy.

Today is the big day! A Piece of Elise is officially one year old. I am so giddy this morning, I feel like I have a human baby who is having a birthday. I will be whipping out the Mimosas in about 2.7 seconds.

Business in Heels

Tomorrow marks the one year anniversary of A Piece of Elise! It’s hard to believe how fast this year has flown by. It feels like just last month that I made my account and showed up at a Business In Heels networking event and tried calling myself a blogger. I didn’t know it at the time, but Business In Heels was probably the best thing I could have done at that point. By the end of the party I had met so many lovely ladies, many who have blogs themselves, who would end up teaching me almost all that I know about the internet. They welcomed me with arms wide open and didn’t laugh (too hard) at the fact that I didn’t even know what a Twitter “handle” meant.

We know a huge amount of the world’s goods are made in Asia. After having lived here for 5 years, although still extremely ignorant, I think I have been exposed (at least a little bit) to the exceedingly poor conditions in which a lot of the fast fashion industry’s products are made. Having said that, I am aware that Thailand is significantly better than some, but a few class field trips to the industrial parks with my University have me horrified to think what “bad” must be.

With this in mind, you can see how I get very excited about something that was not only made in a respectable way, but in a way that I would be proud to share. When I found Charlie Middleton, I knew it was just that!

Sonic Skincare

Writing about beauty or how to make yourself look “good” has never really been my thing. The whole idea of my blogging about makeup just feels a little bit too superficial, and frankly, that’s just not what A Piece Of Elise is about. In case you’re new to my blog, it’s mostly about having fun and being yourself and ultimately expressing that through your clothing. You will see that in most of my posts I’m sporting a giant smile because I love what I do and I definitely do not take fashion (or myself) too seriously. If you fall in love with something that looks absolutely ridiculous, it would make my day to see you wear it. I am not going to sit here and write about fashion rules or things that are most flattering for your body, because that’s just not how I see it. Having said that, I am completely obsessed with bold lipstick, I think it’s a great way to make an outfit that much more fun.

There’s Nowhere Like Home

Well friends, I am officially done University! Last night I arrived home to my parents house in Canada for the holidays – so happy to be here.

Although I still have an internship in Bangkok come January, the end of school marks a new beginning for myself, as well as A Piece of Elise. Although I am unsure as to what that means, you can expect more frequent posts from me…whether you like it or not.
