Recently, I have grown to love online shopping. There’s nothing better than being able to buy stuff, sitting in your pajamas, eating Haagen-Daaz, getting ready for sometime next week when you’re planning on actually looking cute. It’s basically a perfect friday night.
Wow, I need to get a life.
Lately my online shopping has gotten even more out of hand due to a retailer named Zalora. Seriously, my building manager is beginning to judge me because she has to give me my mail.
The craziest part about my addiction is that it has absolutely nothing to do with the clothes. When it comes to Zalora, I am in love for an entirely different reason.
Given that I am a marketing student, I am a total geek for marketing. In my mind, fashion and good marketing evoke a feeling similar to how I imagine boys feel about Victorias Secret. They say consumers skim the print ads, I obsess over them. This is how my addiction to Zalora all started.
Until recently, I was never really into online shopping. There was too much risk involved. Items never seemed to look the same in real life nor fit me like they did the model. Half the time the color wasn’t even right. For me, it was just asking for a negative experience.
But then I found Zalora thanks to those annoying sponsored Facebook ads. The amazing thing is that they have literally managed to remove all the risk involved with shopping online. Especially when it comes to post-purchase dissonance through a simple yet highly innovative marketing idea.
1. English and Thai language website
2. Email/Text message order updates
3. Free & fast delivery
4. Cash payment upon delivery
5. Free returns
Ok, so you’re probably thinking these are all totally normal. You’re right, they are. But here’s what makes Zalora special.
6. Return to 7/11.
Yah, I know, crazy. Lets say that sheer purple top you ordered doesn’t leave enough to the imagination. All you have to do is take it with you next time you buy your Tao Kae Noi Spicy Seaweed. Simple. You have 30 days.
I was never excited about free returns until now. I couldn’t even tell you where a post office is in Thailand. I also had no intention of actually taking the time to get myself there – Bangkok traffic, no thanks. But heading to the bottom of my building, to 7/11, where I would most likely want to buy iced cream is totally cool. Thank you Zalora. I can now online shop as easy as I buy bottled water.
You may not want to start, it’s really hard to stop.
Note: Given that Zalora is a “marketplace” style online retailer, their brands vary largely in quality and fashion forwardness. However, their in house brand EZRA has been a never fail option for me.
This post was inspired by the fact that my outfit was purchased almost entirely through Zalora. Outfit details at bottom, like always.
Happy shopping lovers!
